A David and Goliath Story

The making of Bosch & Rockit  is its own compelling tale.

Behind the scenes a story of courage, tenacity, risk and opportunity unfolded as two independent filmmakers took on COVID and made a movie against the odds.

Masks and COVID bubbles have now become a way of life, but when we started filming Bosch & Rockit  they were new for us and for the industry.

We started pre-production in March 2020, with a heavy focus on finding a way to work through COVID, and our cameras started rolling at iconic Byron Bay five months later.

Luke Hemsworth, who stars as Bosch, says filming during the pandemic was a venture into the unknown, but our cast and crew rose to the challenge and the ‘can do’ attitude of everyone on set got us through, from day one to wrap…

BOSCH & ROCKIT

a story told through the eyes of innocence

Our film is a powerful story told through the eyes of 13-year-old Rockit, played by Rasmus King, a newcomer to the film industry.

We knew Rasmus could act within minutes of his screen test, but just how good he was won the respect of everyone on set as the actor on debut nailed the ‘gnarly scenes’.

On the strength of his performance in Bosch & Rockit, Rasmus has been signed by global entertainment agency WME in California, along with director Tyler Atkins.

Location

The canvas for Bosch & Rockit  is iconic Byron Bay with all its natural treasures.

This extraordinary backdrop of the Australian Coast is the perfect fit for our story and the style Tyler Atkins wanted to create to bring it to life.

He worked closely with DOP Ben Nott ACS to develop a shooting model that is based on taking full advantage of the natural light and scale of our remarkable seascape.

We shot Bosch & Rockit  with anamorphic lenses to capture the phantasmagoric visuals, along with light cranes for the camera work and a drone to capture the vastness of our ocean which ultimately shows ‘a boy held by nature’.

The tone and feel will capture a sense that Bosch is being watched, hunted, a man on the run … the juxtaposition of a relaxed father and son surfing safari with the tension and suspense of not knowing what’s around the next corner … the complexities of this father and son relationship … the bonds of Rockit’s other connections to family and friends. Our point of view camera reflects his inner search for love.

Soundtrack

From Bowie to the beach, this is definitely a movie for surround-sound!

Complementing one of the world’s most cinematically rich areas is the film’s equally extraordinary sound.

Guided by engineer Scott Mulready, Bosch & Rockit  transports its audience deep into the ocean and rainforests of Australia’s iconic Byron Bay and Tweed coast.

Bosch & Rockit  grabs you from the outset with the legendary David Bowie fuelling the senses as Bosch, our film’s enigmatic rebel, pumps his classic Eleanor Mustang down a highway to … well, watch and find out!

Brian Cachia’s score reflects the sometimes haunting, often dramatic and ever shifting moods of Bosch & Rockit.

Along with David Bowie, the soundtrack also features current Australian artist RY X and the enduring tones of Marc Hunter as Dragon classics pepper the movie.
